Jim Nixon

          ​I have a background in Law Enforcement with a City in the Stark County area started in 1999, and I am an NRA Training Counselor, where I hold certificates in many NRA disciplines and can teach both BASIC and INSTRUCTOR-LEVEL courses. The courses are:

* Basic Pistol, aka...CCW 

* Rifle

* Shotgun

* CCW (more advanced)

* Defensive Pistol

* Personal Protection in the Home

* Personal Protection Outside the Home

* Chief Range Safety Officer

* Range Safety Officer

* Metallic Cartridge Reloading

* Shotgun Shell Reloading


Non-NRA classes also available that I teach:

* Stop the Bleed

* ODNR Hunter Education

* USA Archery Level 2 instructor rating 

 

          I am currently the Secretary of the Canton McKinley Rifle and Pistol Club and assist the Chief trainer of the Club in providing quality training for its members and their families. I have volunteered and held the following positions In the Boy Scouts of America: Chairman of the BSA Buckeye Council Marksmanship and Safety Committee, BSA Eagle Scout advisor, BSA Merit Badge Counselor in Rifle, Shotgun, Archery, and Family Life, BSA Pistol youth trainer, and am a founder of Troop 111 (all-female Troop), where I held the position of Committee Chair.  Currently, in my Law Enforcement career, I have held the positions of Field Training Officer, Patrol Officer, Juvenile Detective, Crime Analyst, Narcotic Detective, Jailer, and was a Metro-Narcotic Agent in the County.  

          I have extensive experience and patience working with children, first-time shooters, victims of violence, and adults. I enjoy working and teaching the youth and adults of this community to bring them an appreciation of firearm ownership, safe handling, and marksmanship.
